Frequently asked questions

How do I know if counselling is right for me?
You don't need to be in crisis to come to counselling. People seek therapy for many different reasons, and you don't need to have everything worked out before getting in touch. Whatever has brought you here, counselling offers a confidential space to explore what's going on, at a pace that feels right for you.

How often will we meet?
Most people choose to meet weekly, as this helps build consistency and the therapeutic relationship. We can review this together as therapy progresses and decide what feels right for you.

Do I need to know what I want to talk about?
Not at all. Sometimes people know exactly what's brought them to counselling, while others simply know that something needs to change. We can begin wherever you are, and together we'll make sense of what feels important.

Is everything I say confidential?
Yes. What you share remains confidential, with a small number of legal and ethical exceptions where there is a serious risk of harm. If this ever became relevant, I would discuss it with you wherever possible.

What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We'll talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you're hoping for, and any questions or concerns you might have. The first session is simply the beginning of understanding your story together.

How do I get started?
Simply get in touch to arrange a free introductory telephone call. It's an opportunity to ask questions, tell me a little about what's bringing you to counselling, and see whether working together feels right.
